Murder On the orient express
dESIGN nOTES
Murder on the Orient Express was an amazing learning experience as a show. It helped me hone the ability to shift focus and create dramatic/tense moments with light. I’m proud of the work I did on this show and thoroughly enjoyed the process aswell. Examples of work are shown below starting with the finished product towards the top and my process being shown as you scroll down.
Par light aimed forward to emulate a train headlight. Silhouetted Poirot and eventually faded in when dialogue began.
Gobo I ended up choosing for windows and how they looked in the scene
Preliminary research about show led me to discover windows from train station that Orient Express would depart from.
Annotation in script on how to achieve window effect and timing of sequence.
Lighting plot created after reading through script and going to rehearsals.
Examples of how lighting plot allowed for separation and allowed me to draw focus to specific characters when dialogue was jumping between them.
Lighting rig used for the show depicted above.
Magic Sheet created for programming show. Rig consisted of 11 Lustr+ LED Source 4’s, 25 conventional Source 4’s, and 14 PARnels. Utilized gels, diffusers, gobos, and different lens sizes for conventional lights.
My lighting punch list to help organize notes and tasks.
